Celebrating 22: Food, Company, Chihuly and Wine
Birthdays have always been a big deal for me, but this year, I found myself caught up with so may other commitments leading to my big birthday that I hadn’t even sat down to plan anything. I kind of just went with the flow and spent a whole week celebrating in my heart, the gift of a new year to live.
Despite the busyness, my 22nd birthday came with a couple pretty sweet celebrations. Here come some fun photos, as promised!
1. The little cast party of the Dance Company’s spring show: Behind the Wall, came right in time to help ring in my birthday! The first hour or so of the day was spent celebrating the success of our semester and the beautiful friendships that came out of it.

2. During the day, I didn’t plan anything since I was set for an end-of-the-year barbecue with my housemates and the TRYBE Banquet with my dance loves. Good food and good company – always a surefire pair!

3. Since I love meat so much, I decided to host a barbecue of my own on the Friday after my birthday. The weather was predicted to be kind of gloomy, gray and wet, but I scheduled it anyway with high hopes. Thankfully, the day turned out to be the most perfect spring day I could’ve ever asked for. The sun was out, but the air was breezy, and the rough spring semester had come to a close. The mix of beautiful friendships, scrumdidlydumptious grilled meat, wine and good weather was refreshing and lovely. The backyard came alive and it truly felt like spring. (It hasn’t since with all the clouds and rain!!)
4. On Saturday, I was reunited with one of my best friends from my time at UWC Costa Rica. It had been over a year since I had seen Nina and we were exploding with excitement at the prospect of an afternoon of catching up and just being with each other. We visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to see Chihuly’s glass exhibit that I had been dying to see for weeks now, as well as had yummy smoothies on Newbury Street. She also treated me out to a wonderful lunch/dinner of steak (OF COURSE)! Such a wonderful day and such a generous person!
6. To cap off that day in Boston, I found my way to a bookstore while I waited for my train back to school. There I perused the shelves for interesting books and spent much time in the poetry section. I hadn’t had the opportunity to just lose myself in a bookstore in a long time. I bought myself a little present – a collection of poetry published in nice, portable, hard-bound goodness. I read the book on and off on the way home! (Will repost some beautiful verses soon!)
A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who greeted me, gave me a hug, smiled at me and made my birthday (/my birthweek celebration) a sweet and memorable one. It’s officially time to rock twenty-two! NOW!
